We congratulate the 149 students who sat for at least one exam, the outstanding teachers who helped them prepare, AP Coordinator Sonia Yo, AP Lead Teacher Isaac Carey, Headmaster Christopher Nikoloff, and Head of High School Academics Dr. Mark Abisi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>A Record Number of Exams Taken<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This spring TASIS established new school records both for the number of students to take an AP exam (149) and for the number of total exams taken (339), topping the previous highs set last year, in which 119 students combined to take 264 exams. These figures are particularly impressive in light of the fact that nearly half of all TASIS upperclassmen choose to pursue a full IB Diploma instead of taking AP classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>Perfect Scores on 79 Exams<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All AP exams are assessed on a scale of 1\u20135, and TASIS students recorded either a 4 or 5 on 49 percent of their exams. Congratulations to Mariia Andreichuk \u201923, Annie Bezikian \u201924, Trevor R. Drummond \u201923, Nitzan Alex Gabriel \u201923, Dominique Grigorian \u201923, Leonid Gurevich \u201923, Kaan Kartal \u201923, Spencer LeGresley \u201923, Ana Loza \u201923, Amaya Norton-Scherer \u201924, William Pacini \u201923, Luigi Rebuffo \u201923, Yueyi Shen \u201923, Victoria Svetlova \u201923, Alexey Varga \u201924, Linzi Zhou \u201924 for combining to take 119 AP exams throughout their time in high school and collectively posting a stellar average score of 4.35. (Special commendation is due to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Cl56Sa2gDxA&amp;t=6198s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Class of 2023 Valedictorian<\/a>\u00a0William Pacini, who scored a perfect 5 on all 14 exams he took!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Andrew Baker \u201924, Kentaro Barnes \u201923, Kseniia Bek \u201923, Martina Gallone \u201924, Lily Moore \u201923, Louis Mut-Tracy \u201924, Flynn Orr \u201923, Isabella Ramirez \u201923, Sofiia Rashnikova \u201924, Katerina Smyslova \u201923, Vova Varha \u201924, and Misha Varha \u201924 were all named an\u00a0<em>AP Scholar with Honor<\/em>\u00a0for scoring 3 or higher on four or more exams with an average score of at least 3.25. Kudos to these 12 scholars, who recorded a 3.93 average on their 58 exams.<br><br>An additional 20 students earned the designation of\u00a0<em>AP Scholar<\/em>\u00a0for scoring 3 or higher on at least three exams. Congratulations to Ryan Arbid \u201923, Giacomo Bertola \u201923, Lorenzo Carlini \u201923, Mary Clardy \u201924, Camille Girotto \u201924, Lea Le Mat \u201923, Michael Maffe \u201924, Leopoldo Malacalza \u201923, Rocco Metzger \u201924, Andreas Riis \u201923, Kathryn Robinson \u201923, Carolina Rossetto \u201923, Gabriela Rossetto \u201923, Cecilia Storm \u201924, Alexandra Svirina \u201924, Sophie Tilman \u201923, Pietro Virgilio \u201923, Rocco Zanarini \u201923, Rebecca Zhao \u201923, and Sophia Zuchetto \u201924.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commendation is also due to Annie Bezikian and Lea Le Mat for earning an AP International Diploma (APID), a globally recognized certificate awarded to students who display exceptional achievement across a variety of disciplines. The APID certifies outstanding academic excellence with a global perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>Success Rate Remains Above 80 Percent<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeboard.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The College Board<\/a>&nbsp;defines \u201csuccess\u201d as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSuccess\u201d on an AP exam is defined as an exam score of 3 or higher, which represents the score point that research finds predictive of college success and college graduation. These findings have held consistent across the decades. One example of such a study comes from the National Center for Educational Accountability, which found that an AP exam score, and a score of 3 or higher in particular, is a strong predictor of a student\u2019s ability to persist in college and earn a bachelor\u2019s degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of the 149 TASIS students who sat for exams this spring, 124 scored a 3 or higher on at least one exam. The College Board considers this a school success rate of 83.2 percent, marking the sixth consecutive year in which TASIS students have achieved a rate of 82 percent or higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th>&nbsp;<\/th><th>2019<\/th><th>2020<\/th><th>2021<\/th><th>2022<\/th><th>2023<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Total AP Students<\/td><td>84<\/td><td>87<\/td><td>97<\/td><td>119<\/td><td>149<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Number of Exams<\/td><td>163<\/td><td>181<\/td><td>201<\/td><td>264<\/td><td>339<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>AP Students with Scores 3+<\/td><td>73<\/td><td>79<\/td><td>83<\/td><td>102<\/td><td>124<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>% of Total AP Students with Scores 3+<\/td><td>86.90<\/td><td>90.80<\/td><td>85.57<\/td><td>85.71<\/td><td>83.22<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Score Summary: 2019\u20132023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/resources.finalsite.net\/images\/f_auto,q_auto,t_image_size_3\/v1689600838\/tasislugano\/jij8dhgskx8zibbzxm7q\/blog_ap_scores_01.jpg\" alt=\"AP Computer Science\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Standout Subjects<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Led by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasis.ch\/about\/blog\/blog-article\/~board\/blog\/post\/faculty-feature-mr-isaac-carey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Isaac Carey<\/a>, four students took the Computer Science A exam and recorded a mean score of 4.50 that surpassed the world average by 1.29 points.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Carey also helped 14 students prepare for the Calculus AB exam, and their average score of 3.71 topped the global average by 0.72 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/resources.finalsite.net\/images\/f_auto,q_auto,t_image_size_3\/v1689600839\/tasislugano\/exsa3clodsqis2hdqhks\/blog_ap_scores_02.jpg\" alt=\"AP Chemistry\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elizabeth Rodostianos guided 12 students to a mean score of 3.92 on the Chemistry exam\u20140.66 points above the world average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guided by Jerry Bleckel, 10 students took the Physics C: Mechanics exam and produced an average score of 4.10, which was 0.70 points higher than the global average.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/resources.finalsite.net\/images\/f_auto,q_auto,t_image_size_3\/v1689600839\/tasislugano\/mg3urgq8lhg3jpoxrstq\/blog_ap_scores_03.jpg\" alt=\"AP 2D Design\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taking full advantage of the state-of-the-art&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasis.ch\/about\/blog\/blog-article\/~board\/blog\/post\/a-day-in-the-ahenk-fine-arts-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u015eahenk Fine Arts Center<\/a>, first-year TASIS Photography Teacher Chrissie Wild helped 15 students achieve a mean score of 4.20 on the 2-D Art &amp; Design exam. The global average was 3.36.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasis.ch\/about\/blog\/blog-article\/~board\/blog\/post\/faculty-feature-mr-daniel-kirsch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dan Kirsch<\/a>&nbsp;guided 16 students to a 3.50 average score on the European History exam, exceeding the world mark by 0.55 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/resources.finalsite.net\/images\/f_auto,q_auto,t_image_size_3\/v1689600839\/tasislugano\/ta1shvmidvlbwtrdvrqh\/blog_ap_scores_04.jpg\" alt=\"AP English\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasis.ch\/about\/blog\/blog-article\/~board\/blog\/post\/faculty-feature-ms-emily-clark\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Emily Clark<\/a>&nbsp;helped 16 English Literature and Composition students secure a mean score of 3.56\u20140.30 points better than the global average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 38 students Noah Clarke prepared for the Macroeconomics exam notched an average score of 3.29. The world average was 3.08.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stephanie Chevalier taught the inaugural AP Psychology class at TASIS and helped 17 students produce a mean score of 3.00, topping the global mark by 0.11 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/resources.finalsite.net\/images\/f_auto,q_auto,t_image_size_3\/v1689600839\/tasislugano\/r7rkssmcyjcb1jhgnmmh\/blog_ap_scores_05.jpg\" alt=\"Internationalism\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasis.ch\/opening-day-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TASIS student body<\/a>&nbsp;continues to be defined by internationalism and multilingualism. With assistance from teachers in the Modern Languages Department, 43 of the 50 students who took the Chinese Language and Culture, French Language and Culture, German Language and Culture, Italian Language and Culture, Spanish Language and Culture, or Japanese Language and Culture exam scored either a 4 or 5.
