100 Years of Institut Montana
The Institut Montana celebrated its 100th anniversary with a big anniversary day on the Zugerberg. Around 900 visitors from the region took the opportunity to get to know the campus, the school and boarding school life.
The public event was dedicated to the past, present and future of the school. An anniversary course led across the campus and made the development since its foundation in 1926 tangible. Among the highlights were an exhibition with photos, documents and original material from 100 years of school history as well as insights into today’s school and boarding school life.
At 20 stations, guests were able to experience various areas of everyday school life, such as outdoor classrooms, laboratories and art and music rooms, and take a look at the future of the campus.
The Institut Montana is part of the educational landscape in the canton of Zug. The school is recognised by the canton and has close ties to the region. Alexander Biner, Chairman of the Board of Directors, says: “For 100 years, Institut Montana has combined international perspectives with regional roots. This anniversary fills us with pride because it shows that our values still carry us today. We are well positioned and will continue to run our school in a modern environment.”
Around two-thirds of the more than 380 pupils come from the region. The remaining third come from over 50 countries and live in boarding schools. Founded in 1926 as a boys-only boarding school, the institute has been focusing on values for 100 years that still shape the school today and are lived in a modern environment. Under one roof, it combines a range of Swiss schools from primary school to the cantonal Matura as well as an international school with an IB degree. Small classes and close supervision enable individual support.
The anniversary day is part of the anniversary year. With events and projects, the institute makes its history, its values and its role in the region visible. At the beginning of July, further anniversary events for alumni, partners, families and employees will take place on the Zugerberg. At the same time, an anniversary book will be released in stores. Starting in autumn, the Zug Library will be showing the exhibition “100 Years of Montana. The past. The present. The future”.
